" Being a Millennium Fellow is being a part of a community of change makers and social innovators. Being a part of a family of like minded people where we can share ideas, values and principles, build memories, grow together, become a better version of each other is a dream come true.
Millennium will push me to stepping outside comfort zone, learning new skills, and develop as a leader as even as a person.
Being a Millennium Fellow is the right opportunity for me to network, gain opportunities, for relationships as well as learn from others. Their mentorship,
guidance and dedication to social impact are part of what I look forward to.
I feel joyed being able to contribute my quota to the world in whatever way I can.
Seeing other as go ahead and pave the way for me, is enough motivation for me to stand up and do the same for others. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: NeuroHER
NeuroHER is a neuroscience-focused Empowerment and outreach initiative dedicated to increasing the participation, visibility, and confidence of girls and young women in the neurosciences. The project provides early exposure, mentorship, relatable role models, and engaging learning experiences that inspire females to explore brain science, neurosurgery, mental health advocacy, neurotechnology, and other brain-related fields.
Through school outreaches, workshops, storytelling sessions, leadership programmes, hands-on demonstrations, and career guidance, NeuroHER bridges the gap between young female students and the world of neuroscience. By presenting scientific concepts in an accessible, relatable, and culturally relevant way, NeuroHER encourages girls to see themselves as future doctors, neurosurgeons, neuroscientists, researchers, and innovators. We encourage the by showing them women who have walked in these shoes same shoes to inspire them and instill curiosity and passion. The project also aims to counter stereotypes, build scientific curiosity, nurture problem-solving skills, and support young women to pursue STEM /Neuroscience pathways confidently.
About the Millennium Fellow
Olu-Pereao Orinayo Oreoluwa is a dedicated, smart, young and highly inquisitive medical student at the University of Ibadan. She was born in Lagos, she resides in Ogun State and is currently studying in Ibadan, Oyo state. Ever since secondary school, her inquisitiveness about the brain started the journey for which drives her today. This drive grew over the years and found expression on realizing the gender gap that existed in this field, having read several researches on engagement in neurosciences and how little women contributed to it. Prior to this, Orinayo has engaged in several community programs, volunteered in several organizations like Rotaract club, and many social movements. Having found out why these gaps exists and how women in neuroscience could revolutionize the society and the world, Orinayo aspires to bridge this gap as she ventures into these fields by educating young girls, providing mentorship programs and many others, hence adding her contribution in the development of the United Nations’ Sustainable Goals.
