" Healthy living is a choice one must clearly uphold if they wish to continue further in life. This requires creativity and innovation. I am excited to be a Millennium Fellow because this community grants me the chance to connect and understand worldviews of other fellows, this create a sense of inclusiveness. This also gives me the chance to learn certain vital skills needed to make tangible impact in the society we live in. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: The Home of Health Initiative
My name is Osamudiamen Kelly Osatohanmwen. I am currently in my fourth year in pharmacy school at the University of Benin in Nigeria. Though I grew up in a Christian home, I was also part of a dysfunctional society where conflicts, emotional distress, ineffective communications, and inconsistent friendships were and still are a norm. I have been involved in several social impact projects aimed at promoting health, mostly physically but rarely emotionally. This made me decide almost a year ago to actively reach out to individuals going through emotional challenges, including those who are going through a rough time or are psychologically distressed due to family or personal trauma. Thus, my project, THE HOME OF HEALTH INITIATIVE, stems from my passion to address the issue of psychological struggles and lack of emotional support, especially among adolescents. It is aimed at improving a healthy state of mind and wellbeing in people as well as creating a unifying bond among members of a family. It also provides a safe space, which I would rather call a home, where people can anonymously or openly share their unpleasant experiences and reconciliation stories and find community support and emotional healing. Here are a few measurable goals I wish to accomplish:
Moving beyond a series of one-off events, our expanded vision for this project is to create a holistic and enduring journey for participants. In order to ensure the positive impact continues beyond our live sessions, we will create a centralized digital resource hub. This hub will serve as a permanent repository of value for the community, providing access to workshop materials, curated links to reputable mental health resources, and practical downloadable tools like mood trackers and journaling prompts. This proactive approach will empower individuals to continue their wellness journey independently, reinforcing the lessons learned and allowing them to access support whenever they need it.
Ultimately, we are committed to measuring the project's success not just through numbers, but by the tangible impact on people’s lives. In addition to tracking attendance and participation, we will actively seek out qualitative impact stories and testimonials through open-ended survey questions and direct follow-ups. These personal testimonials and case studies will provide the powerful narrative behind our data, illustrating how our project has created real, meaningful change in the well-being of our community. This dual approach of quantitative and qualitative data will give us a complete and compelling picture of our success.
