Millennium Fellowship Project: Students for Progress Initiative (SPI)

Overview of the Students for Progress Initiative (SPI) Following admission into the Millennium Fellowship Class of 2025, I, Chimezie Umeoka, as the group leader, and my single-person member, Princess Ihechi Chukwu, put into action our project tagged ‘Students for Progress Initiative’ (SPI). Our project idea arose from a problem which I noticed in our academic system. There are little to no major orientation programs or fellowships aimed at helping freshers, that is newly-admitted students, acclimatize to the rigours of academics. This creates a problem whereby most of them make mistakes at the early stage of their academic journey which sometimes leads to prolonged consequences. Our project is in alignment with the SDG 4. It aims to provide a kind of mentorship platform where these freshers are adequately informed and guided through certain post-admission processes like Hostel allocation, class schedules, course registration processes, academic tutorials e.t.c. Our initiative is impactful in that it helps the students adjust to the University system, staying informed and in bracing up for the rest of their academic journey.
