" The Impact, Creativity and Networking opportunities it provides are catalysts to my excitement and love for my work. Being a part of the Millennium Fellowship would enhance these skills collaboratively. The skills I gain from this program would make my social impact projects on schools and communities more tangible and worth-experiencing, aligning with the UNAI principles and SDGs. I envision this opportunity, as a way of learning and increasing creativity. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Protect your Eyes Project

The Protect Your Eyes project aims to educate and create awareness about often-overlooked everyday habits that can lead to long-term eye defects, particularly among students and lecturers who spend extended periods on phones, laptops, and reading hard copies. These habits include, but are not limited to: Prolonged screen time, Incorrect viewing distances and angles, Very small font sizes, Blue light exposure,Inadequate breaks during study sessions According to Dr. Ajith Karunarathne, Assistant Professor of Chemistry at the University of Toledo, "Excessive screen time can lead to eye strain, dryness, and irritation, increasing the risk of eye diseases such as cataracts and age-related macular degeneration." Additionally, according to Dr. Mohamed Dirani, Research Fellow at the Singapore Eye Research Institute, "Prolonged viewing of screens at incorrect distances and angles can increase the risk of myopia and other eye problems in children and adults." This project will not only create awareness about these habits but also educate the university community on how to modify their reading, studying, and living habits to eliminate these eye-damaging habits. By doing so, we aim to promote healthy study habits and maintain healthy eyes.
