" At first I didn't think I'd be eligible to join the Millennium campus fellowship, I wasn't always motivated because I saw myself as inadequate and not up to par, but looking through MCF site and the testimonies and works of people who have passed through it, I saw it as an opportunity to voice my thoughts and became really passionate about mental health, and where I'm from mental health isn't really talked about. I saw MCF as an opportunity to make a change probably I didn't think as far as globally but just in my community, an opportunity to work with people and learn and become a better version of myself. Millennium Fellowship Project: SOCIAL ANXIETY NIGERIA: SPEAK, LISTEN

Our project hopes to explore what social anxiety really is, why it happens and how to manage it among secondary school students, especially because these young ones are in their formative years and must take charge of their lives. My team and I hope to create this awareness through our community service project targeting secondary school students, where we would talk about how social anxiety can shape friendships, academics, self-confidence, and ultimately, how you can overcome it, adopting practical strategies that have worked for us.

About the Millennium Fellow

Ogbuanya somtochukwu Maryann is a third year Pharmacy student at University of Nigeria Nsukka campus, Enugu State Nigeria . She enjoy reading, writing, and learning new things. She's not the most outgoing person, but she's grown passionate about mental health because she's recovering from social anxiety. These days, she's focused on stepping out of that space, becoming better, and connecting more meaningfully with others, by being a member of the research committee of the ISPOR-HEOR organization at her school. She like sharing ideas, working with people, and is always open to opportunities that help her grow personally and academically.
