" I am excited to be a Millennium Fellow because it offers a golden opportunity to learn from great minds, strengthen soft skills like teamwork and critical thinking, and expand my professional network. I envision a world where doctors are at their optimum, delivering the highest quality care to patients — a goal that cannot be achieved if their mental health is compromised. This fellowship provides a powerful platform for growth, enabling me to develop the skills, connections, and perspective needed to champion both healthcare excellence and the well-being of those who provide it. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Cervical Cancer Awareness Campaign

The Cervical Cancer Awareness Campaign targets around 200 female students at the University of Jos and nearby areas, aiming to identify premalignant stages of cervical cancer and prevent their progression to malignancy, while encouraging regular testing for long-term control. Campaigns are being organized within the university, surrounding institutions, and communities across Plateau State, with plans to extend screening to older adults and provide vaccinations for children under nine. Through this initiative, we were able to enhance participants’ knowledge about cervical cancer and its causes and promote preventive practices among the women involved.

About the Millennium Fellow

Gift Val, a final-year medical student at the University of Jos, Nigeria, is a resilient and dedicated advocate for healthcare equity. Living in Jos, she is passionate about bridging healthcare gaps by reaching people who cannot otherwise access medical services. Deeply concerned about the welfare and mental health of fellow medical students and doctors, she believes only happy doctors can truly impact others. She is also devoted to improving the lives of children with special needs, with a vision to establish an institution dedicated to their care and empowerment.
