About the Millennium Fellow
Omogwigho Gloria Akpederi is an undergraduate student of Microbiology at the University of Lagos, Nigeria, with a deep passion for public health, health education, and community development. She is the co-founder of the Health Enlight Initiative, a youth-led organisation committed to building a healthier and better-informed society by combating health misinformation, promoting preventive healthcare, and empowering adolescents through school-based health clubs, educational webinars, and community outreach.
Her upbringing in Lagos, where she witnessed the impact of illness, poverty, and limited access to healthcare, shaped her drive to make health information and resources more accessible. She has contributed to impactful projects, including playing a leadership role in the Zero TB Initiative, collaborating with partners to deliver tuberculosis awareness and screening programs.
Omogwigho ’s vision is to contribute to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by addressing health inequities and empowering vulnerable populations. She aspires to pursue a Master’s in Public Health and return to implement innovative, evidence-based solutions that improve the well-being of children, mothers, the elderly, and underserved communities.
