Millennium Fellowship Project: beyond the sugAAARR
I’m launching a campaign called Beyond the SUGAAARR to help young people especially university students and underserved youth understand what diabetes is, how dangerous it can be if ignored, and how to take better care of their health. Many young people either don’t take their health seriously or simply don’t have access to the right information. This often leads to late diagnosis or serious complications like kidney failure, blindness, or heart disease. This project is deeply personal to me. I’i've lost loved ones to diabetes-related complications my dad and a cousin. Watching them suffer made me realize how important awareness, early testing, and proper care are. With this campaign, we’ll host events on campus, organize online sessions, share survivor stories, post helpful content on social media, and take the message to rural areas where the health gap is wider. I also plan to work with health-focused organizations, clinics, and student groups to offer free blood sugar checks and make sure young people know where to turn for help. The goal is simple: help young people feel informed, supported, and empowered to protect their health before it’it's too late. Diabetes doesn’t have to be a silent killer not on our watch.
