University of Lagos | Lagos, Nigeria | Advancing SDG 5, SDG 12 & UNAI 3

" I do the work I do to spark meaningful change in my environment. When people first heard about sustainability, many dismissed it as a conspiracy. My mission is to unite SDG 5, 8, and 13, and share knowledge within my community that can ripple outward, inspiring action across the world. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Eco Sisters
Eco Sisters is a circular textile initiative committed to transforming waste into opportunity.
We collect discarded fabric, offcuts, and textile waste from tailors, designers, and households, and convert them into sustainable products such as compact reusable shopping bags, keepsakes as memorials, and functional everyday items. Our goal is to reduce textile pollution within the Lagos community and subsequently Nigeria while creating community-centered solutions that support women, artisans, and young people.
Beyond upcycling, Eco Sisters operates through a three-pillar model:
Textile Upcycling:
We take waste fabrics or fabric scraps and creatively rework them into new products that are durable, beautiful, and eco-friendly. Through this, we promote a circular economy and reduce waste going to landfills.
Community Education:
We run workshops, school outreaches, and community programs that teach young people and local women about sustainable living, textile waste reduction, and creative reuse. This empowers communities with practical skills and environmental awareness.
Advocacy & Awareness:
Eco Sisters drives conversations on textile pollution, environmental justice, and circular solutions. We advocate for responsible consumption, waste reduction, and a more sustainable fashion ecosystem.
