" I am excited to be a Millennium Fellow because it gives me the platform to amplify DigiEquip’s mission of bridging the digital literacy gap in underserved communities. Every day I see that talent is universal, but opportunity is not and through this fellowship, I can connect with global change makers, gain strategic support, and create partnerships that bring more digital tools and skills to rural youth in Nigeria. For me, this is not just about technology, but about unlocking dreams and ensuring no young person is left behind in the digital age. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: DigiEquip
As a Nigerian in the 21st century, it breaks my heart to see Nigeria, the country with the largest number of people in West Africa living in extreme poverty despite having a 70% youth population. My project, DigiEquip, is focused on helping young people, especially those in underdeveloped communities, learn basic computer skills and tech skills through rural centered outreaches, mentorships, personalized learning. With the increasing role technology in every aspect of life, not having basic computer skills is a huge disadvantage. DigiEquip aims to empower these youths with the necessary skills, so they can move beyond merely surviving and actually begin building a better future for themselves and their families. By providing them with these skills, we can contribute to increased digital literacy which leads to a great reduction in unemployment and a stronger economy. What sets DigiEquip apart is its rural centered approach. Our goal is to ensure that we can empower as many youths as possible regardless of their social status by expanding our reach through local partnerships.
