Millennium Fellowship Project: Project Go green
At its core, it is a youth-driven environmental initiative that combines education with hands-on action. Our activities include tree planting campaigns in communities, recycling drives that encourage people to repurpose plastic waste, and awareness session
s that teach 3 the importance of afforestation and the dangers of climate neglect. We discuss climate change, its causes, effects, and how it can be prevented on social media platforms. We also train people on how to plant trees and recycle their wastes in
to meaningful and beautiful crafts. Through our outreach programs, we educate people about how daily human activities from waste disposal to energy use impact our climate, and how simple lifestyle changes can make a difference. During the fellowship, the project evolved from a local clean-up idea into a coordinated community effort. We built partnerships with volunteers, environmental clubs, and local leaders to amplify our reach. The sense of unity and purpose that followed proved that collective action truly makes change possible. We discuss climate change, its causes, effects, and how it can be prevented on social media platforms. We also train people on how to plant trees and recycle their wastes into meaningful and beautiful crafts. To inspire real action, we launched the “Plant Five Trees Challenge” a community competition that encourages people to plant at least five trees in a month. Those who plant the highest number of trees receive a reward. With this initiative, we aim to plant over 500 trees monthly, promoting afforestation and helping restore green spaces in our communities. In addition to tree planting, we’re tackling the growing threat of plastic pollution. Through a recycling partnership with the Coca-Cola Bottling Company, the Greenhub University of Lagos, we collect and return over 10,000 used plastic bottles, which are recycled in exchange for support and resources. This collaboration not only reduces plastic pollution but also shows how communities and corporations can work together to protect the environment. Through these activities, Project Go Green has inspired conversations, changed habits, and proven that environmental sustainability is everyone's responsibility.
