University of Ilorin College of Health Sciences | Ilorin, Nigeria | Advancing SDG 4, SDG 5 & UNAI 3

" Being a Millennium Fellow is an opportunity to learn and achieve new skills which will be of great use personally and to others in the nearest future. It is also an opportunity to rub minds with big thinkers whom I would love to learn from by working together. And more importantly, it is an opportunity to carry out more impactful projects in my community and the world at large. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Project X: Where Collaboration Meets Impact
Project X is a youth-led outreach initiative designed to empower adolescent boys with accurate knowledge, emotional intelligence, and healthy behaviour mindsets. As Millennium Fellows from the University of Ilorin, we identified a gap in conversations around mental health, gender equality, adolescent development, and male-inclusive health awareness; especially in secondary schools.
Through an interactive 3.5-hour session at Government Secondary School, Ilorin, we engaged over 200 male students using storytelling, scenario-based learning, live demonstrations, and open discussion. Our topics covered Mental Health Awareness, Gender Equality and Male Allyship, Breast Cancer Awareness (including the fact that men can also be affected), and Adolescent Boy Empowerment.
About the Millennium Fellow
Aida Anne Bayakly is a 3rd year medical student at the University of Ilorin, Kwara state. From a very young age, Aida has always known what she has wanted to do: help people. Believing medical practice is a great service to humanity besides her curiosity to understand the human body, it has always been her goal to become a doctor who will be of great help to the commonest of people. Learning more about Nongovernmental Organizations and the part of projects aimed at bettering society at large-even in the smallest of ways- Aida has decided she can make a change in the world by starting, no matter how small to make a move to take on and participate in realistic projects aimed at making changes. Aida is an ardent supporter of girl child education, women's rights and the drive against environmental pollution having witnessed how these affect the lives of people in her community. She is eager to start and attain sustainable development goals and make a difference.
