" I am very excited to be a part of the Millennium Fellowship because it will help me gain more experience in societal advocacy and social impact. It also provides an opportunity for me to develop both interpersonal and intrapersonal. These anticipated developments will be given back to the society through improved societal advocacy and social impact, well aligned with UNAI principles and SDGs. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Happy Haemoglobin, Happy Minds Initiative

Happy Haemoglobin, Happy Minds Initiative is a health awareness initiative aimed at improving understanding of blood health and its impact on mental wellbeing, particularly among individuals living with sickle cell disease (SCD) and their loved ones. Accessible educational fliers, raising awareness about sickle cell anaemia was shared via WhatsApp, with the aim of reaching young people in familiar and trusted spaces.
A Google Form was developed to assess awareness of SCD and the emotional experiences of affected individuals and their loved ones, helping to inform the project’s approach and support scalability. Collaboration efforts were initiated by reaching out to three sickle cell organisations. Although two of these organisations failed to respond, I am currently in active discussions with the CEO of the Damilola Sickle Cell Foundation. Once this partnership is finalised, the project will connect individuals living with SCD to the foundation for psychosocial support.
By combining awareness campaigns with practical outreach and partnerships, the project empowers communities to better understand blood health, recognise early signs of SCD-related mental challenges, and access to appropriate support networks
