University of Ilorin College of Health Sciences | Ilorin, Nigeria | Advancing SDG 6, SDG 17 & UNAI 3

" My passion for public health and social impact drives the work I do in my community. Becoming a Millennium Fellow excites me because it will amplify my ability to collaborate with like-minded change makers, strengthen my leadership, and align my projects more closely with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. I am eager to use this platform to create sustainable change and inspire healthier, more empowered communities. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: The Water Project
The Water Project was created to address the poor water quality in the school hostel. Before the intervention, students depended on untreated water that was visibly unsafe for drinking and daily use. As Millennium Fellows working towards SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation, our goal was to provide a practical and sustainable solution that the school community could maintain long-term.
We installed a durable water filtration system in the hostel to ensure students have access to clean, safe water every day. A key part of the project’s sustainability is the design of the system: the filter cartridge can be replaced easily and costs less than 10% of the entire unit, making maintenance affordable and realistic for the hostel management.
The Water Project improves student health, reduces the risk of water-borne diseases, and sets a foundation for continued safe water access in the hostel.
