" Passion for community growth especially in health and education related areas are my driving force.
Being a Millennium Fellow will equip me with the skills and knowledge that I need to be a better leader and advocate in the SDGs capacities which I believe in. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: EmpowerHer health
The project involves teaching young girls (adolescents and teenagers) in secondary schools important information about menstrual hygiene and reproductive health and some notable and not visible changes their bodies would be facing due to the hormonal changes at these stage. Also how they can better adjust to these changes and relate with their male counterparts appropriately during these periods. The goal is to help them understand how to take care of their bodies during their menstrual cycles, how to calculate their ovulation periods to abstain from sexual relations to prevent unwanted teenage pregnancy, feel confident about their bodies and the changes it undergoes, and how to eat healthy, stay healthy and engage in healthy activities. We would also provide advice, support (by sharing free sanitary pads), the project also aims to clarify and dispute any myths, fears and taboos concerning this topic such as you cannot get pregnant during periods, menstrual blood is toxic, menstruation is blood is dirty, menstrual cramps are normal and should be endured without seeking help and many more. This project would educate the girl child and provide facts rather than myths to encourage girls to take charge and control of their menstrual and reproductive health.
