Millennium Fellowship Project: LassaSafe Project
Lassa Fever is a Viral disease caused by infection with rats that have multiple breasts and it is also a disease of importance, meaning the government and center for disease control must be informed when there is a case like that, due to it's rapid spread and risk of fast deaths. In my region, Lassa Fever and other diseases, called "notifiable diseases" are coming back to town (re-emerging) and it is very important to arm citizens with information and strategies to avoid getting infected. My project helps with that by raising not just awareness, but preparing everyone and arming them with the necessary toolkits needed for response to these notifiable diseases. The project ranges from educating everyone on what notifiable diseases are and habits that can cause infection with Lassa Fever, such as leaving food out in the open, signs of infection, to possible partnership with emergency contacts to be reached in case these symptoms begin to show in neighbors and friends.
