" "I believe health and education are two of the most powerful tools for transforming lives and communities. My work is driven by the conviction that everyone deserves access to quality healthcare, knowledge, and opportunities to thrive. The Millennium Fellowship excites me because it offers a unique platform to amplify my voice, sharpen my leadership, and collaborate with other passionate change makers. Through this experience, I look forward to turning vision into action, and action into lasting impact that advances the Sustainable Development Goals and inspires others to do the same."

Millennium Fellowship Project: Empowerment Initiative for Women's Health

EmpowerHer (The Empowerment Initiative for Women’s Health) is a community–centered project dedicated to improving health literacy, confidence, and informed decision-making among adolescent girls and women in underserved communities in Nigeria. As a nursing science student passionate about public health and gender equity, I designed EmpowerHer to address a critical gap: many young girls and women lack basic knowledge about their bodies, menstrual health, hygiene, puberty, and essential aspects of reproductive wellbeing.
Grounded in the values of the Millennium Campus Fellowship and aligned with the United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) and multiple Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 3, 4, 5), EmpowerHer seeks to create safe learning spaces, deliver practical education, and provide essential supplies for menstrual and general hygiene. The project uses simple, relatable conversations and community outreach to equip girls with information that protects their health, strengthens their confidence, and empowers them to advocate for themselves.
Through interviews, mini-sessions, and direct engagement with girls in local communities, EmpowerHer has revealed how limited access to accurate health information truly is and how transformative even brief education can be. This project marks only the beginning of a much larger vision: a Nigeria where every girl is informed, confident, and empowered.
