Malaria remains one of the leading health challenges in Nigeria, claiming lives and weakening communities, particularly among children, pregnant women, and low-income families. Despite ongoing interventions, many individuals still lack access to preventive tools, timely diagnosis, and accurate information on malaria control. Our project seeks to address this gap by combining community awareness, testing, and treatment to reduce the burden of malaria.
The main aim of this project is to create awareness within the school community and beyond on malaria prevention, while also providing direct support through free testing and treatment. Through campaigns, online awareness programs, physical outreaches, and community partnerships, we will spread knowledge on preventive measures such as sanitation, proper use of mosquito nets, and the importance of early diagnosis and treatment.
To measure our impact over three months, we will track the number of people we reach and the activities we successfully execute. Our specific goals include:
1. Host 3 awareness events, each reaching at least 150 people, to educate on malaria prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. Locations will include our campus, a secondary school, and a community market.
2. Conduct online sensitization programs, reaching a minimum of 200 participants through, infographics, and social media campaigns.
3. Partner with at least 3 organizations (e.g., local pharmacies, NGOs, community health centers) to secure mosquito nets, diagnostic kits, and antimalarial drugs for distribution.
4. Provide free rapid malaria testing and treatment to at least 50 patients during the physical outreach.
Attendance, participation, and the level of awareness will be tracked throughout. Achieving or exceeding these targets will confirm that the project has met its objectives in promoting healthier, malaria-free communities.
