" Building skills in leadership, communication, and community impact isn't just powerful , it’s life changing especially when paired with purpose. MCN gives me the chance to connect with other passionate students and professionals, learn from inspiring alumni and world changers, and grow in confidence as I carry out projects that truly touch lives. I have a dream that drives me, and being given a global platform to chase it is a golden opportunity. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Generation Zero

Generation zero is a project that aims at reducing the prevalence of HIV/AIDS in Akwa Ibom over the next coming generations through a public awareness system that targets secondary school students. This helps bridge child-parent communication gap as some parents in our community find it uncomfortable discussing sex-related subjects with their children. Generation zero helps educate these children early before they become sexually active so that they can form the right attitude, behavior and mindset toward safe sex practice that will be sustained for long, having lasting impact on the next generation. Also, these students can help spread the awareness beyond the walls of their schools through peer influence. The project will span over a period of four months, when we will be visiting two secondary schools to sensitize the student and help them create a HIV/AIDS awareness club that will ensure the continuity of this awareness beyond the four months.

About the Millennium Fellow

Idara John Nelson is a second-year dental student at the University of Uyo with a heart for people and a passion for learning. Serving as Financial Secretary of PCI CMDA and her class, she believes leadership is rooted in empathy, a value shaped by moments when compassion mattered more than rules.
She volunteers in dental outreaches and HIV awareness campaigns, and is planning to develop a naira-based medical study app to make quality resources accessible to Nigerian students. As a Millennium Fellow, she is turning her vision for inclusive education into reality.
