Millennium Fellowship Project: My Mind and Me
My mind and Me is a project that seeks to address the mental health challenges faced by members of our community. In Nigeria, mental health is a topic that has quite the 'pariah' reputation. The culture is the stay strong and smiling in the face of any adversity. This culture can be quite toxic and I would to address this and create awareness. We will plan two events. In the first one, we plan to go to secondary schools to raise awareness. We will hand out surveys for the students to assess their receptiveness to mental health and address questions and issues they may have
The second is to visit the university of Uyo teaching hospital, where I currently study at.We will visit the mental health department and talk to the patients and doctors there. With this, we can open our minds to the challenges most patients face as they go about their daily lives.
About the Millennium Fellow
Stella Akpabio is a hardworking , ambitious young lady. She was born and raised in Nigeria.
She's currently in her penultimate year studying medicine & Surgery in University of Uyo, Nigeria.
She's passionate about reproductive of both men and women, and has recently piqued an interest in diagnostic and interventional radiology specialty of medicine.
She aspires to make a huge impact in the society at large , and with delight, being accepted into Millennium Fellowship program has really paved the first of many opportunities for her .
