" I strongly believe that justice should not be seen as a privileged but a right. Using the law as a tool, whether in advocacy or writing, I am driven to discuss environmental injustice. In that regard, I am thrilled to be a Millennium fellow, as this will provide a platform to connect with change makers, equip me with hands-on skills and amplify my ability to turn my research and writing into impactful action that advances the SDGs. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: RESTORING DIGNITY in EDUCATION

This is an independent project led by Micky Onyango as the sole founder. It aims to examine how the commercialization of Kenya's International schools affects the teachers' welfare and, in turn, learning quality and possibly the integrity of education in the process. Through a blend of desk-based research, google forms, and one-on-one engagements this initiative aims to highlight the dangers of commercialization in schools that affects the actualization of SDG 4, Quality Education.

About the Millennium Fellow

Micky is a final-year law student in Kenya, passionate about environmental justice and sustainable development. Growing up in a country endowed with rich resources yet still facing environmental injustices deepened her resolve to advocate for legal support to such vulnerable communities. Her academic journey and hands-on experience in legal aid, legal research and writing have led her to focus on environmental protection and justice. Through her writing and research, Micky aims to influence legal reforms and contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals with a vision of having legal systems that uphold environmental justice and sustainability both locally and globally.
