" Passion is what fuels my work. Without passion, the world is bland. I am excited to get this opportunity because it gives me the opportunity to not only share but also see other people's passion. That truly is what will help us make a difference "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Sauti za Asili
The "Sauti za Asili" project aims to reclaim and glorify Kenya's and Africa's history through honest storytelling, art, and dialogue. It challenges the colonial narrative that has dominated African history, distorting identities and erasing the true African experience. The project uses a podcast series featuring narration, interviews, dramatizations, and conversations with elders, historians, and youth to bring to life the Kenyan colonial history and African experience with warmth and humor. It culminates in a film and art festival that visually expresses the cultural revival and ongoing effects of colonization. "Sauti za Asili" seeks to inspire pride, foster collective healing, and empower young Africans to reclaim their stories and assert justice and dignity locally and internationally.
The project addresses several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including:
SDG 4 (Quality Education): by providing access to truthful and culturally relevant historical knowledge.
SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities): by challenging colonial legacies that perpetuate social inequalities.
SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions): by promoting justice and equitable recognition of African histories and identities.
