Millennium Fellowship Project: Combating Healthcare Misinformation in the Digital Age

This project addresses the growing spread of healthcare misinformation across digital platforms and its impact on public health decision-making. With social media, messaging apps, and online forums increasingly shaping how people access medical information, inaccurate or misleading content has become a significant barrier to health literacy, trust in healthcare systems, and effective disease prevention.
The initiative aims to promote accurate, accessible, and evidence-based health information by identifying common sources of misinformation and equipping communities with tools to critically evaluate digital health content. Through workshops, digital campaigns, and collaborations with healthcare professionals, the project focuses on translating complex medical knowledge into clear, culturally relevant messaging.
Key activities include hosting educational sessions on identifying misinformation, creating short-form digital content that debunks common health myths, and partnering with local clinics, universities, and community organizations to amplify credible sources. By centering digital literacy and community engagement, the project seeks to empower individuals to make informed health decisions and reduce the harmful consequences of misinformation, particularly among youth and underserved populations.
Ultimately, this initiative contributes to stronger public trust in healthcare, improved health outcomes, and a more informed digital public sphere where accurate information can compete effectively with misinformation.
