" Curiosity and a commitment to justice, shaped by my academic interests, drive my work. The Millennium Fellowship will strengthen my ability to tackle global issues through critical analysis and collaboration. The skills I gain will make my advocacy for equitable policies more impactful and aligned with UNAI principles and SDGs. I'm excited to link policy research with tangible community outcomes and envision inclusive approaches to peacebuilding. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: SCARS (Sexual Crisis Assistance Resource Service)

The Sexual Crisis Assistance Resource Service (SCARS) expedites police and government engagement with university students by providing resources on sexual violence prevention. The idea came about in a discussion between first-year undergraduate students sharing their experiences with gender-based violence at the University of Toronto. They all felt the same way: in a time of crisis, they were unaware of which resources to use. Upon further research, we found that in the past four years, sexual assault has increased by 52% in Toronto. Additionally, 1 in 10 women are likely to be sexually assaulted at a post-secondary institution, placing them at the highest risk of sexual violence in Canada. Through QR code stickers, SCARS centralizes Toronto police, university, and government resources into a mobile-accessible page. This offers survivors or supporters readily available resources for emergency situations. Stickers will be distributed during orientation events, club meetings, and classes alongside online channels like social media. Students can then put these stickers on laptops, phones, or water bottles. In times of need, our initiative seeks to recast ‘scars’ as a gateway for much-needed prevention, education, and healing.
