" I am excited to be a Millennium Fellow because it allows me to advance my passion for healthcare accessibility and education. I believe that knowledge is the first step toward equity, and through this fellowship, I hope to empower communities with the tools and understanding they need to take charge of their health. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: The EquiMed Initiative
The EquiMed Initiative started because I saw how many people around me—and around the world—struggle to access basic healthcare. Things like getting a routine check, a flu shot, or even just understanding how to stay healthy can be difficult if you don’t have insurance, transportation, or reliable information. That didn’t sit right with me. So I decided to do something about it. EquiMed focuses on three things: education, care, and support. We work with local health departments and universities to create easy-to-understand health guides about topics like nutrition, vaccines, and preventing illness. We pass these out to people who do not have regular access to doctors or health care advice. We also organize free pop-up clinics where anyone can walk in to get screenings, vaccines, or talk to a doctor—no insurance required. On the global side, we collect extra medical supplies that would otherwise go to waste—like gloves, bandages, and syringes—and ship them to hospitals in countries that really need them. My goal is to help more people stay healthy and feel empowered to care for themselves and their families. Everyone deserves that, no matter where they’re from or how much money they make.
