" Our best learning experiences come not from our professors, but from our peers. I am excited to engage and work with an amazing group of fellows both at Vanderbilt and worldwide, as we strive to create meaningful projects and improve our world for the better. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Hill Hire
Too many amazing students get siloed into big-name industries like banking and consulting. A large factor contributing to this push are the facts that many students are undecided about their future and there are immense resources available for college students to break into these industries. The same can not be said for jobs in the public sector such as think tanks, local governments, and non profit organizations. As someone who went through the recruiting process for these internships myself, I can say firsthand that these opportunities are much harder to find than those in business and tech. One primary reason for this is the lack of a centralized resource to find and apply to internships and fellowships. If I wanted to go into business, for instance, the career center at Vanderbilt has a spreadsheet of 1000+ jobs in the sector, while private companies such as RecruitU, Adventis, and The Hive have their own databases. The goal of this project is to create a similar database for jobs in government and policy, helping students find internships they are interested in while also improving the talent pipeline to these amazing jobs that help make our world a better place.
About the Millennium Fellow
Joey Ravikoff is a sophomore at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. At Vanderbilt, Joey is a member of Vanderbilt Mock Trial and a researcher for both the Institute of National Security and the Political Science Department. Born and raised in New York City, he spent the past summer interning at the Bronx District Attorney's Office, where he combined his interests in law and government with the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Bureau. His Fellowship Project centers around increasing access and visibility to political internships, helping close the gap between resources available for students in interested in government and their peers in tech, business, and finance.
