" Millennium Fellowship Project: IITM Mental Wellness Network IITM Mental Wellness Network is a grassroots level endeavour aimed at raising mental health support systems within the student community. We will work within the IIT Madras campus and with underprivileged students from around the city of Chennai. We planned to mobilize students into tightly-knit support groups at the intra- and inter-departmental levels so that their mental health issues can be voiced in safe spaces. We will also work towards normalizing conversations surrounding mental health and conduct campus-wide data collection drives to cater to the specific needs of students. More importantly, we shall engage in a conversation with campus administration and other stakeholders to introduce a formal mental health infrastructure as part of the healthcare facilities available to students on campus, both in terms of counselling as well as medical attention. Simultaneously, we aim to interact with school students and introduce them to issues regarding 'Mental Health' potentially helping form an inter-university mental health support system that connects major campuses in South India. IITM Mental Wellness Network ultimately wishes to constitute a dynamic network that evolves with changing needs and times, in ways that understand connections between mental health and other spheres of life, such as educational quality, or gender equality. University of Kashmir | Srinagar, India | Advancing SDG 4 & UNAI 3 Millennium Fellowship Project: Education And Interaction My project stems from the root cause of every evil in a society, lack of education. I have previously talked about how the Drug menace is the worst danger Kashmir is going through right now and in my understanding of the issue, I believe that the lack of quality education is the root cause. The youth who abuse drugs aren't aware of the dangers that hard drugs cause and as bad as the drug peddling business is, I want to have a soft take towards them, these are youth trying to make money, easy money to be precise because these youth lack opportunities and not to generalize but most of them drop out from schools. I want to target the youth with my project, to promote quality education for the youth, and to show them new pathways towards success and liberation towards their potential. I have been working for the underprivileged students of the valley and my project will focus on tending to their needs in every way and raising awareness about the need for quality education for all. " Millennium Fellowship Project: All-Inclusive Safe Space for Youths in Kenya In Kenya, where there are 47.6 million people, 75% of the population is under 35, according to the results of the 2019 Population and Census. The work force in Kenya, which includes those aged 15 to 64, makes up 57% of the country's overall population, with young people making up 29% of that group. As a result, the majority of young people are jobless, ostracized, and subject to police harassment in addition to being denied access to essential services like healthcare and education. Therefore, this project aims to provide a platform for youth-to-youth sector-specific quality education sharing in order to be able to take advantage of opportunities to improve our overall well-being as youngsters. Our goal is to provide a peer-to-peer support network that helps young people, especially those with disabilities, to develop and pursue their ambitions. The community also aims to give them the chance to connect with and be open with their peers about their weaknesses and difficulties so as to find strength and refuge. " Millennium Fellowship Project: VINSIGHTE TECHNOLOGY Visual Impairment has been a limiting, depressing and overlooked problem in Africa with little help given in the region to help the victims enjoy a better quality of life. According to WHO’s 2010 global data report, 285 million people are visually impaired in the world and 26.2 million people suffer from visual impairment in Africa. Most of them are limited in their ability to read and move around their environment independently which has exposed them to even more hazards, limited their access to education and job opportunities, endangered their quality of life and wellbeing and brought on them undue stigmatization. Our aim at Vinsighte is to alleviate this problem. Vinsighte designed a hand-held guiding aid called Viri and a smart reading eye-glasses called Visis which aids the visually impaired to navigate a familiar environment independently and read books conveniently. Viri makes use of sonar technology to detect obstacles and obstructions in the path of the user and relays feedbacks via mild vibrations. Here is a short video of one of our pilot users using Viri-- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4LKhtqVTGYM Visis, makes use of a camera and AI to aid the visually impaired to read conveniently by converting the texts of books to audio for them to listen to. Rudimentary prototype https://drive.google.com/file/d/1T8U8sBl5r6vsyALvs67hoUrLlLOnn6Pb/view We have developed working prototypes which have been beta-tested and piloted with Visually impaired users in the University of Ibadan and at Omoyeni home of the visually impaired in Ibadan, Nigeria where we reached out to a total of about 70 visually impaired persons. Currently, we are working on improving our designs to ensure that our products are market fit. Due to the great prospect our innovation has shown and the success we have achieved in development, the World Bank Group recently announced Vinsighte as one of the top 14 social impact ventures among 3100 ventures in the world. We are currently in the 2019/2020 Facebook Accelerator program, Nigeria where we have access to business and financial mentors as well as technical support and resources from Facebook and Co-creation hub to further develop our technology and structure our business for scale. Families are experiencing the devastating loss of loved ones due to hypertension, and previously healthy individuals are finding themselves paralyzed by strokes. Pregnant women are grappling with the critical issue of inadequate blood supply during childbirth. These distressing scenarios are unfolding right before us, and it is imperative that we take action. In a determined response to this widespread threat, a dedicated team of 26 individuals, of which I am proud to be one, has initiated "The Health Mission." This comprehensive project will encompass a blood donation drive, community blood pressure check-ups, and educational awareness campaigns focused on hypertension, stroke, and genotype compatibility. Our multifaceted approach, THE HEALTH MISSION, seeks to address these critical issues on multiple fronts. We aim to educate and sensitize community members, conduct medical outreaches within the community, and encourage regular checkups among people in the community in order to favor early diagnosis of stroke and high blood pressure. Despite diversity in careers, skills development towards advancing food security and good health should accompany career diversity. How do we intend to solve this problem? Based on the report from the Nationa Institute of Statistics “ 2nd Survey on the Monitoring of Public Expenditure and the Level of Recipients Satisfaction in the Education and Health Sectors in Cameroon (PETS2), on December, 2023 shows there are 1,013,667 students in the secondary education sector of Cameroon. Educational Reformation will require that career orientation is needful for this students as they move to forms fives and and from upper sixth level to the university of the need to incorporate agricultural entrepreneurship skills in their chosen fields (career) if there is need is the will to combat the challenge of food security and good health. This holistic approach (New) will have a tremendous multiplier effect. Skills development on food transformation will alleviate the challenge of post harvest waist and equally, the production of quality food void of spikes, will enhance good health within our communities and by so doing, this initiative will be enhancing SDG 2, which addresses on Zero Hunger and SDG 3, which addresses on Good Health and Wellbeing. How will you measure your impact?: Our impact shall be measured in terms of groups, clubs that shall be created in secondary schools and universities where a reformed curriculum shall be applied to orientate these students on the knowledge based environment where they can make informed decisions that will make them sustainable.
