" If I were to pick one cause I am most passionate about in life, it would be that of gender equality. Through the opportunity provided by the Fellowship, I have already met several like-minded individuals, and hope that further sessions would lead me to meet more such passionate individuals. I aim to make a significant impact on gender equality, and I believe education is the most powerful tool we have to achieve this. The Fellowship is a large-scale opportunity for me to realise the vision I hold for society. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: The Parity Project

Through the process of being in the Indian education system, we have observed that gender neutrality is NOT a common concept. The lack of appropriate infrastructure is an issue, but what we find most concerning is the implicit values of a man over a woman being imparted in the syllabus, through examples and learning modules. This is what we aim to change, the cultural handover of male supremacy. Our goal is simple, to create an education system with zero bias, in terms of gender. By educating children about equal opportunities from an early age, we hope that as they grow older, they are able to fight the bias in the system and work on bridging the opportunity gap between men and women.
Our project aims to introduce new and improved learning modules in a test number of schools. We wish to partner with NGOs already working in the sphere, and spread our vision through carefully constructed learning modules.
The modules will be designed in a way to condition the child's mind about equal opportunities. One of our modules is specially dedicated to feminine sexual and reproductive health, such that the young ladies in the school are prepared to face any issues that may arise in this regard.
We also would like to work on methods of teaching, so that the person in charge of these young minds also refrains from inducing any bias. These methods will include both traditional classroom lectures as well as practical modules, with special emphasis on the gender neutrality of each situation. Modules such as home activities would be taught carefully to impress the end goal upon all the students.
To better ensure the spread of our insights, we plan on running a blog that will be promoted in the social media sphere.
In summation, we hope to create a pool of young people who understand gender equality and are able to pass the value on in their communities, eventually bettering society.
