Millennium Fellowship Project: Health Education and Awareness
We are carrying a series of outreaches educating a very high density suburb called Epworth in Harare, Zimbabwe, about different health related topics. Our main focus initially was combating the rising use drug abuse amongst the youth, and we decided to advance our project into a health related project since we are all medical students. We educate the Epworth community in public gatherings, churches and clinics about topics like Hypertension, child immunization schedules, importance of Antenatal health care as well as drug abuse and awareness.
About the Millennium Fellow
Simon Davison Marumbe is a proactive, motivated and bright young man studying Bachelors of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Zimbabwe. He was born and bred in Harare, Zimbabwe and currently resides there. Since childhood, Simon has been concerned about the health and welfare of people around him. He has always been trying to find ways on how he can improve the living conditions in his poor communities. This desire grew bigger with the passing on of his mother and sister in the same year due to short illnesses. His goal became to avoid the suffering of the kids that remain after parents pass on, as he did and chose to become a Medical Doctor. Instead of waiting to become a doctor first to contribute to people's health, Simon is currently invested in educational campaigns to enlight his community about various ways they can improve health and life. He hopes to become a professional public health officer and help improve the lives of people living in developing countries.
