" There is nothing more discouraging than feeling uncomfortable in your own skin, as if you cannot live freely in the world. I am excited to be a Millennium Fellow to create more inclusive communities for underprivileged and underrepresented groups. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Vietnamese Diaspora Support and Inclusivity in Providence
Because many Vietnamese people in Providence are students, I wanted to create a community for cultural understanding and security for the Vietnamese diaspora. This is especially important for students because most are living alone for the first time and are transitioning into adulthood, a very important stage of social development. These students may also be coming from places where there is a large Vietnamese presence and may feel frightened or uncomfortable to be separated from their people and culture. Students may also include international students from Vietnam who are living in the United States for the first time.
About the Millennium Fellow
Lucas Pham is a second year student at Brown University studying Behavioral Decision Sciences and Modern Culture and Media. He is passionate about facilitating cross-cultural dialogue and creating mutual understanding among minority communities. In high school, he worked as a Human Relations Ambassador for the County of Orange, discussing the treatment of minorities locally with other students. He hopes to utilize this Fellowship to uplift minority communities in Providence.
