" I aspire to lead by good example as to how women empowerment is impactful and important.I believe my successful aspirations will inspire and motivate other women/girls to be even better and make them believe that it is possible for a woman to be seen ,heard and respected. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Mjenge Mama

Mjenge mama is an initiative meant to grow women through personal and economic development. It arose from the rapid cases of domestic violence on women especially due to their financial dependency on their husbands. Financial dependency makes them have no say in decision making processes and limits their control of resources. Worst cases are when women get kids having no personal source of income which makes them completely depend and hold on abusive marriages for the sake of their children. This is a form of blackmail for the husband to keep the wife around making them prone to any form of mistreatment and violence.Mjenge mama address UN SDG 5,Gender equality and creates impact by ensuring women have both access and control to economic opportunities that will help them more independent financially. It aims at organizing entrepreneurship trainings for women, awareness campaigns especially on women to challenge gender stereotypes and community support for women empowerment. Majoring on the awareness campaigns, it has made men understand the impact that women empowerment has and this has made them motivate their own daughters to focus on their studies and discourage them from engaging into relationships with the opposite sex before building themselves financially. Mjenge mama also has a business project for women where they are trained to sew Ankara bags for sale. This is a skill that keeps them engaged to earn an income and before financially independent.
