" As a first generation college student and woman of color, I recognize the importance that comes with being seen. As an avid reader, I quickly found out early on the importance of reading with substance. The stories told and the many lesson that they teach can be impactful in numerous ways. I believe that the children of today are tomorrow's future. As individuals in society, it directly becomes our responsibility to ensure that we provide all the necessary tools in order for them to succeed. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Introducing Diversity Through the Power of Reading
The purpose of my project is to influence the importance of diversity. In order to get my message across I utilize the tool of reading to allow students to relate to the message. The importance of diversity leads towards awareness and acceptance of others. My main focus is to use reading as a way to combat this issue in our world.
