Millennium Fellowship Project: Women at Work

As India marches towards development, women in rural India bear the brunt of this development. Women in the rural or sub urban regions face a variety of problems such as lack of education, limited access to health care services, discrimination based on gender and so much more. This project aims to, firstly, understand their understanding of their problems, what is the reason behind the problems arising. Once this is done, the project will then come up with reasonable and practical solutions to solve their problems and most importantly, try to avoid them from arising again. And, not just coming up with the solutions, the project aims to make sure that these solutions reach the women and also that they understand how the solution is to be put to use. The project aims to sensitise men about the problems of women and how they can help them with simple tasks. For example, women of the house tire themselves out when they are cooking for the entire family thrice in a day. The men can help relieve this stress by performing simple tasks like cleaning their plates after having food. Also, young boys can be taught how to treat women and girls.
