Millennium Fellowship Project: No Young Addict Campaign

The NoYoungAddictCampaign is an initiative focused on educating young Africans about a novel approach to overcoming addiction. We'll be giving out leaflets that introduce people to the concept of using neuroscience to fight addiction. The goal is to create systems that enable individuals to engage in the process of overcoming addiction using controlled willpower. It's a fresh approach that could really make a difference within Africa and beyond.

About the Millennium Fellow

Israel Ayomide Abanida is a dynamic fourth-year Biomedical Engineering student at the University of Ilorin. Born in Kaduna, a city in Nigeria known for its rich cultural heritage and as a key center in the North West geopolitical zone, Israel has a diverse educational background. He has studied across the North West, South West, and North Central regions of Nigeria, a leading economy in West Africa. As the only son of his parents, Israel developed a love for good music early on, which has led him to become proficient in playing the piano. His passion for innovation and leadership has consistently driven him to excel in various roles. Currently, he serves as the Design Lead at Meditechy Africa, a healthtech organization with active presence in over 20 African countries, where he focuses on delivering forward-thinking solutions in healthcare technology.
Israel's leadership journey began as a senior prefect, where he honed his skills in team management and strategic planning. His experience extends to leading initiatives such as the GoDigital project under Leap Africa, where he empowered students across West Africa with essential tech skills. As a student leader, he has actively contributed to the Models United Nations, the Faculty of Engineering Tech Hub, and the Biomedical Engineering Exhibition events.
An advocate for the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Israel is particularly committed to implementing these goals within health technology. He is dedicated to driving innovative solutions that leave a lasting, positive impact in Africa, where healthcare is still lagging behind, and in the world at large. His work on projects like "MigoHealth," an online drug prescription platform enhancing healthcare accessibility through local dialect support, and "No Young Addict," a neurological approach to combating addiction, reflects his forward-thinking approach to solving critical challenges. Israel’s interests span across AI in Biomedical Engineering, mental health, and the development of accessible and innovative healthcare solutions. He believes there is much work to be done and is determined to make a significant difference in the field.
