Millennium Fellowship Project: Feeding Street Children
The "Helping Street Children" project is a comprehensive initiative designed to address the multifaceted challenges faced by street children through a holistic approach that combines immediate support, educational empowerment, and community reintegration. The project aims to provide essential services including nutrition, healthcare, safe shelter, and psychological support for children aged 5-18, with a particular focus on unaccompanied minors and those from extreme poverty backgrounds. By implementing strategic outreach programs, protection services, and skill development workshops, the project seeks to build trust, offer educational opportunities, and create pathways for long-term improvement in these children's lives. Key intervention strategies include mobile support teams, legal advocacy, trauma-informed care, life skills training, and collaborative partnerships with local government agencies, NGOs, and community leaders. The ultimate goals are to reduce vulnerability, increase school enrollment, enhance employability, and facilitate positive community reintegration, ultimately offering street children hope, support, and tangible opportunities for a better future.
About the Millennium Fellow
Ernest NIYONIZIGIRA is a dedicated law student at the University of Rwanda committed to community sustainability. Hailing from Rwanda and residing in Huye, Ernest combines his legal studies with a passion for sustainable development. His selection as a Millennium Fellow for the Class of 2024 reflects his leadership potential and vision for positive change. Ernest aims to leverage his legal education and the Millennium Fellowship experience to contribute meaningfully to advancing the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in his local community and beyond.
