" At a personal level, much of what I define as success for me lies in service for others. Upon hearing about the Millennium Fellowship, I knew this was that perfect opportunity to continue the work of capacity building emotionally for campus students through telling the story of a boy once broken but now strong.
My driving force lies in the knowledge that emotional experiences are deeply personal and how an individual reacts to a situation is different from how another is likely to react. However, with proper exposure and knowledge, individuals can build capacity to better handle these inevitable eventualities of human interaction. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Kenya Tertiary Institutions Mental Health Association (KETIMHA)

Kenya Universities Mental Health Club Association is an initiative to unite all mental health clubs within the country. This would allow a structured approach to the activities that the clubs run therefore ensuring they are optimising their contact with university students and hence better serving them.
The association would also bring to accountability the individual clubs work and also help in mobilization of resources and manpower.

About the Millennium Fellow

Dennis Kioko is a third year Bachelor of Science in Nursing student at Amref International University. Dennis was born in Masii, Machakos, Kenya where he was brought up by his grandparents, Patricia Kaluki and David Mutuku. Being an only child, Dennis grew up to become an introvert, and not just any introvert, and INFJ one. Life in primary school high school had no major highlights as he preferred to keep to himself. On admission to campus, Dennis had not experienced any major love affair which changed drastically when he was in second year. At the time, he had developed feelings for a classmate which ended up being sour for him. The classmate deeply broke his trust and imagined perfect world when she left him guessing whether to continue pursuing her or forgo the relationship. It was during those times of doubt that Dennis felt the need for groundedness emotionally, first for self, before ushering new people in life. As Dennis build resilience around his life, he wondered how many lards like him had suffered in the hands of being misunderstood. In ordering to be at the forefront of championing for stronger emotional capacity building for campus students, Dennis joined the mental health club in the capacity of a chairperson where he now leads different fora that align with emotional growth, resilience and shared wellness. Broadly, Dennis is proud to aid in work that helps promote Good health and Wellbeing- Sustainable Development Goal number three!
