" "My drive to fight poverty in Afghanistan stems from witnessing the struggles families face due to a lack of education and opportunity. Through my project, which promotes economic investment, job creation, and education, I aim to help communities achieve long-term stability. The Millennium Fellowship excites me because it will strengthen my leadership, connect me with change makers, and allow me to scale solutions that empower women and families. I am eager to align my work with the UNAI principles and SDGs to build a future where education and economic security replace despair with hope." "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Empower Afghanistan– Emphasizing Economic Empowerment through Education

Brief Description:
My project aims to fight poverty in Afghanistan by combining education, job creation, and economic investment. It focuses on empowering women with high-quality education so they can support their families, join the workforce, and help boost the economy. At the same time, I plan to create jobs by establishing factories and industries for both skilled and unskilled workers, while attracting local and international investors to strengthen economic development. By collaborating with NGOs, policymakers, and business leaders, the project seeks long-term, sustainable solutions to poverty and to give families the opportunity to prosper.
Impact Goal:
During the fellowship (August–November 2025), the project aims to positively impact around 9,000 lives by building partnerships, securing support, and promoting actionable strategies for economic and social change.
SDG Focus:
No Poverty (SDG 1) addresses the root causes of poverty through education, employment, and economic empowerment.

About the Millennium Fellow

Enjilla Yousufi is a strong, young economics student at the Asian University for Women. Originally from Kabul, Afghanistan, Enjilla’s experiences shaped her determination to fight poverty and create sustainable change. Her project encourages economic investment, job development, and education as key solutions to poverty in Afghanistan. Although she no longer resides there due to current circumstances, she remains deeply committed to her homeland. Enjilla has worked with non-governmental organizations to support women’s educational opportunities and believes that by establishing businesses and attracting capital, families can achieve stability and prosperity. Witnessing how daughters are often sold in rural areas due to financial hardship has strengthened her resolve to act. Even from afar, Enjilla is devoted to finding long-term solutions that empower women, uplift families, and drive Afghanistan toward economic independence.
