" Young people who are empowered and passionate to make a difference in the world is what makes my act with resilience and action. The Millennium Fellowship is not only an opportunity to learn and develop projects who make a tangible impact. It is also the chance of creating community And build a network that shares the same values, passions and goals. Having support, guidance and passion is what keeps me going to work on what matters, and Millennium Fellowship will be a big part in my role as a leader, but also as a global citizen. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: TerraVita
TerraVita is a group made by students that is focused on the environmental impact and how to develop a more sustainable life. We firstly focus on community actions like recycling, giving environmental education, and bringing local projects to help them sell their merchandise in our campus with the goal of helping them stay in the market, but also giving the students the opportunity to buy more sustainable objects to avoid fast fashion or products from big companies. TerraVita really focuses on sharing a new style of life in which people can grow some consciousness about the impact of small actions and what climate and environmental crises are happening in actual life.
About the Millennium Fellow
Karla Edith Baños Espinoza is a passionate, driven, and globally minded law student at CETYS Universidad in Tijuana, Mexico. At just 19 years old, she has already established herself as an activist, leader, and changemaker, deeply committed to advancing environmental action, mental health awareness, human rights, and youth empowerment. As a graduate of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program, Karla has led and participated in numerous youth-led projects that promote climate justice, foster community engagement, and inspire young people to be active participants in building a better future with the belief that young voices hold the power to shape global and local solutions. She works to inspire her peers to be part of the solution rather than the problem, while advocating for mental well-being as a foundation for leadership and resilience.
