Millennium Fellowship Project: Period awareness

Period Positive is a project that focuses on helping young boys and girls between the ages of 8 and 14 understand menstruation in a simple and healthy way. Many children in this age group do not know what a period is, why it happens, or how to manage it. Some girls feel scared or ashamed when they start their first period. Boys also misunderstand the topic, which can lead to teasing and stigma.
This project teaches children that menstruation is normal, natural, and nothing to be ashamed of. Through school visits, group talks, and friendly learning sessions, I explain what periods are, how to maintain hygiene, and how to support one another. I also give out sanitary pads to girls who need them.
The project includes boys, teachers, and parents so that everyone can help make the community more understanding and supportive. By creating awareness early, Period Positive builds confidence, respect, and a safe space for young people to learn about their bodies.
The main goal of the project is to remove period stigma, promote hygiene, and empower young girls to feel strong and proud.
