I believe everyone deserves equality, respect, love, care, and the basic right to a dignified life. Helping those who face challenges, nurturing the environment, and working for the collective good are causes close to my heart—and I'm eager to grow alongside like-minded peers who share this mission. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Swajal
Swajal is a clean water initiative dedicated to providing safe drinking water to slum communities in Delhi-NCR. Our approach begins with researching a database of major slums and conducting door-to-door surveys to identify areas in need. Once a community is assessed, we install entrepreneurially designed water filters based on their requirements. We currently focus on two types of filters: Biosand Filter (BSF): A compact version of the traditional slow sand filter, designed for household use. It consists of a steel or plastic container filled with layers of sand and gravel. It operates without electricity and can last up to 30 years. So far, we have sold 55 biosand filters, impacting 62,400 slum residents by improving access to clean water, creating jobs, and promoting entrepreneurship. Gravity Filter: Still in the research phase, this filter uses multiple filtering materials in smaller layers instead of large quantities of sand. We are exploring various adhesives and construction techniques to enhance its efficiency. Through this initiative, we aim to develop sustainable, low-cost solutions that improve health and hygiene while also fostering revenue generation and economic growth in underserved communities.
