" I realized that change can begin with something as small as a hook and yarn—but it doesn't have to stay small. The Millennium Fellowship is an amazing platform to learn, grow, and collaborate with experienced global leaders. I'm excited to strengthen my work, collaborate globally, and explore how traditional skills can be reimagined as powerful tools for economic freedom, cultural pride, and sustainable social impact. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Crochet for Change

#Crochet for Change is a social impact project launched under my business, Bruno’s Crocheting. We empower underprivileged women from marginalized communities to become financially independent through the art of crocheting.
Our artisans come from communities in and around Delhi, where men are traditionally seen as the sole breadwinners. Many of these women are housebound, have limited education, and are financially dependent on their husbands. With rising living costs, a single income is often not enough to support a family of four. From a young age, girls are expected to remain within the home, leaving them with little opportunity to dream, grow, or make independent decisions.
Through crochet, a traditional craft practiced worldwide with beautifully unique regional styles, we create opportunities for our artisans to earn an income while working from home. By teaching them this skill, we help them become self-reliant and trust in their own abilities. Their work results in beautifully handmade crochet products crafted with care and creativity.
This project aims to transform a simple childhood craft into a powerful tool for change and a pathway to economic freedom. It helps women achieve financial independence, overcome traditional barriers, regain their confidence, and rebuild the dreams they once had to set aside.

About the Millennium Fellow

Fiona Anthony is a bright, young second-year psychology undergraduate at Jesus and Mary College, University of Delhi. She is the founder of Bruno’s Crocheting, a crochet clothing and lifestyle brand in New Delhi. What began as a childhood hobby has grown into both a source of income and a medium of change, empowering homebound women to overcome family and cultural barriers that limit their access to employment and higher education. Through her work, she aspires to integrate her background in psychology with her entrepreneurial initiatives to build sustainable, community-centered models of empowerment and well-being—empowering women to become financially independent through the art and craftsmanship of crochet.
