" 'I am driven by the belief that when students are empowered, they can shape a cleaner, greener, and more equitable economy for all. My work focuses on creating opportunities where youth-led ideas meet sustainability and social responsibility. Being a Millennium Fellow excites me because it offers the mentorship, tools, and global community needed to turn shared vision into collective action, transforming small, local efforts into lasting impact aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals.'' Millennium Fellowship Project: Student Microfinance for Sustainable Green Economy
Students in lower-middle-income countries like Bangladesh often face financial hardship that limits their access to higher education. Challenges such as tuition fees, semester costs, and other academic expenses disproportionately affect students from working-class and lower-middle-income families, especially where access to subsidized public education is limited.
Student Microfinance for Sustainable Green Economy addresses these barriers by providing interest-free microloans to support students’ educational needs. Instead of paying interest, students return only the principal amount and contribute through voluntary social service. This service includes environmental awareness campaigns, tree plantations, educational outreach, and collaboration with NGOs and government agencies.
This pilot project creates a win-win model that supports students’ academic continuity while promoting sustainability, civic engagement, and the development of a greener, more inclusive economy.
