" Being a part of the Millennium Fellowship will give me the much needed visibility and community support I need to tackle some of the societal issues I have observed in my immediate environment and beyond. I'm elated, to say the least, to have been chosen and I hope to achieve all that is required for me in alignment with UNAI and SDGs. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Clean Environments, Good Health Initiative.

When you take a closer look at waste disposal statistics in Africa, it becomes clear that there is a significant issue at hand. Despite recent advancements, many African countries are still falling short in properly managing their waste. It's concerning that a lot of people either don’t recognize or disregard the severe health impacts that arise from improper waste disposal. This negligence contributes to unhealthy living conditions, as many individuals choose not to engage in proper waste disposal practices. In fact, some are misinformed and mistakenly believe that dumping waste in abandoned areas or burning refuse publicly is acceptable. This is precisely why I am determined to launch the CLEAN ENVIRONMENT, GOOD HEALTH initiative with the Millennium Campus Fellowship. This initiative goes beyond mere advocacy; it is a proactive approach to ensuring clean environments that promote health. We will engage in hands-on environmental clean-up activities while actively encouraging community participation. Additionally, we will spread awareness about the serious consequences of living in unclean conditions and provide clear alternatives for proper waste disposal. Together, we can make a substantial difference!

About the Millennium Fellow

Masroor Adeeyo was born and raised in the city of Benin, where a lack of basic amenities and social infrastructure seemed to be etched into the very air. Growing up in that environment sparked an early appreciation for always thinking of ways to better his environment and of those around him, this shaping Masroor into someone who sees every environmental and societal problem as a way of making impact. Hailing originally from Osun State, Masroor draws inspiration from growing up in a city that differs from where he is from originally, leading to his ability to adapt to peculiar situations. Currently based in Ekiti State, where he is pursuing an undergraduate degree in political science at the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, Masroor Adeeyo believes that politics, gives one valuable insights on helping humanity, making it an ideal field for someone with a passion for understanding people and their trouble, which is necessary in trying to advocate and achieve the UN's Sustainable Development Goals.
