" “I'm excited to be a Millennium Fellow because it’s a chance to take engineering out of the lab and into communities, ensuring that the technologies I create directly address real-world needs in low-resource settings.” "

Millennium Fellowship Project: The Evapinator, Solving the Last Mile Problem for Diagnostic Testing

The Evapinator is a device I am building to solve the issue of sample transport for diagnostic testing in Low resource settings. You draw blood at a point of care site, place it into the Evapinator, and then push a button. Out comes a sample that is stable at RT and can be transported without a cold chain transport system. Costs less then a $100 to build, fits in a backpack, runs off a battery pack and can dry samples in an hour.

About the Millennium Fellow

Charles Anderson is an Electrical Engineer with a concentration in bioengineering and devices, passionate about creating frugal technologies for low-resource communities. He is developing the Evapinator, a portable device that preserves biological samples at the point of care without a vacuum or cold chain, bringing research innovations beyond the lab and into real-world settings. A recipient of the prestigious Astronaut Scholarship, he is committed to advancing accessible, high-impact engineering solutions worldwide.
