Millennium Fellowship Project: Harvard Oceans

Harvard Undergraduate Oceans is a student-driven initiative dedicated to expanding Harvard’s role in advancing ocean sustainability. While significant faculty research already exists, student involvement and cross-school collaboration remain limited. Our project connects passionate students with experts across Harvard’s ten schools to drive impactful work in three areas: Prevention (education and legal protections for marine life), Cleanup (innovative solutions to reduce plastic and fishing-net pollution), and Policy (advocating for adoption of scalable ideas globally). By raising awareness, launching interdisciplinary projects, and building partnerships with organizations like NOAA and the UN, we aim to spark measurable, lasting progress for ocean conservation.

About the Millennium Fellow

Luke Samra is a dedicated and motivated student at Harvard University, concentrating in Music & Economics. He was born in London, resides in Wales and is currently studying in Boston, Massachusetts. He is passionate about the oceans, specifically sustainability and marine conservation. He wants to uniquely contribute to the United Nations' Sustainable Goals by connecting students and professors from all of the different Harvard schools to work on a singular project with each school providing solutions based on their area of expertise. He is also very passionate about music as well as social impact.
