" I believe meaningful change stems from collaboration, empathy, and local insight. The Millennium Fellowship is a space where I can strengthen these values, deepen my impact, and grow alongside passionate change makers equally committed to reimagining a more just and inclusive world. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: She Counts too

Have you ever wondered why women occupy the lower ranks of organizational hierarchies, such as in banks, while only a tiny fraction ever make it to the top? That is the central focus of my project, understanding why this is the case and how we can offset it. I am interviewing women employed in Karachi’s financial sector to learn about their journeys, their achievements, setbacks, and everything else. I want to understand what factors facilitated their progress, what hindered their advancement, and most critically, what is absent. I am also analyzing company policies such as maternity leave, harassment protection, and promotion policies to gauge if they genuinely aid women or merely offer phantom support. The objective is to craft a range of stories and findings turned into practical solutions aimed at making these institutions more inclusive from the bottom level to the boardroom. Eventually, I want to take this project beyond research and use it to spark dialogue, raise awareness on campuses, and work with professionals who are ready to push for change. This isn’t just about women getting a seat at the table—it’s about reshaping the table altogether.
