" I am truly excited to be a Millennium Fellowship member because of the incredible impact the platform has made in helping young leaders turn their visions into reality. It’s inspiring to see how many lives have been transformed through the fellowship, and I am confident that my journey here will be just as impactful. I look forward to growing, learning, and making meaningful contributions to my community through this opportunity. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: The Mental Health We Ignore
My project, “The Mental Health We Ignore,” was created to address the mental health gap through a friendly, relatable, and stigma-free awareness session at Abadina School II, University of Ibadan.
The project aims to educate teenagers about mental health, help them understand stress, anxiety, and emotional well-being, and empower them with simple coping strategies. Many students I met assumed that mental health only referred to “madness” or extreme cases, showing a widespread misunderstanding that leads to silence and shame. By simplifying the concepts, using storytelling, demonstrations, and open conversations, I helped students see mental health as a normal part of everyday life—not something to hide or fear.
About the Millennium Fellow
Akande Faith is a preclinical student of Physiotherapy at the prestigious University of Ibadan, located in Oyo State, Nigeria. From an early age, Faith has been driven by a deep sense of empathy and a passion for helping others, especially in the area of mental health. Her academic journey in the health sciences is not only a pursuit of knowledge but a step toward her broader mission—to make a lasting impact in the lives of those struggling silently with emotional and psychological challenges. Her interest in mental health stems from her understanding of the often overlooked connection between physical well-being and emotional resilience. As a future physiotherapist, she believes that healing should be holistic, and that mental health care deserves just as much attention as physical rehabilitation. Now, as she joins the Millennium Campus Network (MCN) Fellowship, Faith sees a new path unfolding before her one filled with opportunities to learn, grow, and amplify her voice in advocacy. Through the MCN platform, she looks forward to connecting with like-minded change makers, gaining the tools and mentorship she needs to implement community-focused initiatives, and ultimately expanding her reach in supporting mental health awareness and education. With a heart full of purpose and a mind set on service, Akande Faith is steadily building the foundation for a career that blends medical expertise with human connection—one patient, one community, and one conversation at a time.
