UNITED NATIONS ACADEMIC IMPACT AND MCN PROUDLY PRESENT MITHUN M R, A MILLENNIUM FELLOW FOR THE CLASS OF 2025.
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras | Chennai, India | Advancing SDG 13, SDG 4 & UNAI 6

" Bridging the gap between technology and legislation drives my climate advocacy. Being part of the Millennium Fellowship will help me refine my ability to translate innovative CO₂ sequestration solutions into actionable policy. The skills and network I gain will amplify my impact on India’s climate agenda, aligning my work with the UNAI principles and the SDGs, especially SDG 13, 14, and 15. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Article C
Article C is an individual initiative aimed at connecting the disconnect that currently exists between policy frameworks and technological capabilities on the ground. The Government of India is set to launch a new Carbon Trading scheme (CTS), which seeks to hold emitters accountable. However, since the scheme is 'voluntary', it presents a critical challenge - why would corporations sign up for such a scheme? Why would they voluntarily pay for their emissions? For this CTS to be effective, the participation of major corporations is key. Article C seeks to support the mission by: 1. Organize the (scientific) community to push the narrative that sustainability is a competitive advantage for any industry. 2. Simplifying CTS for businesses and making them realize the reputation benefits of opting in 3. Scouting for under-the-radar carbon credit generators (rural innovators to green startups) and encouraging them to join the scheme, turning their climate-positive actions into monetizable impact.
About the Millennium Fellow
Mithun M- R is an engineering undergraduate at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Chennai. Passionate about climate action and policy, he started Article C to bridge the gap between emerging carbon capture technologies and legislation in India.
Drawing on his experience in engineering, international affairs, and student leadership, Mithun combines technical insight with policy advocacy to push for ambitious, enforceable climate commitments. He envisions a future where climate laws are informed by both innovation and community needs — ensuring that India’s net-zero goals translate into tangible, measurable progress.
