Millennium Fellowship Project: Bloom: Women's Health & Empowerment
Women's health and empowerment is a community-based project focusing on women’s reproductive health- a taboo in our society where women face serious health risks due to a lack of basic awareness regarding menstrual hygiene, breastfeeding, and pre and post-delivery care. This project aims to address this disparity by connecting underprivileged women with available healthcare resources via a three-tiered approach. First, we plan to conduct monthly free maternal health awareness camps in underserved areas. These camps will comprise educational sessions and discussions with the community members to address their concerns and provide them with accurate information. Secondly, an aspect of these camps would involve the recruitment and training of local women as Maternal health ambassadors to educate and support other women. Finally, by making use of digital technology, we intend to upscale our impact by launching a social media awareness campaign by developing short, easy-to-understand Urdu-language materials (videos and infographics) to address common misconceptions, provide certified information and make this essential information accessible for women who due to stigmatization, illiteracy or travel constraints cannot avail the available healthcare services. This project through the use of physical and digital means hopes to bridge the gap in reproductive health seen in our community.
