" I'm excited to be a Millennium Fellow because it’s a place to grow with others who believe in making a difference.
I believe access to technology can open doors, and together, we can turn small steps into real, lasting change. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: AccessLab Tech

AccessLab Tech is a project I’m starting, to help young people, especially girls, access digital skills and opportunities early in life. I have a younger sister studying IT as part of her course in senior high school, another in junior high school and a younger brother in primary school. Even though they aren’t all focused on IT yet, I want to make sure they, and others like them, can build strong foundations in technology if they choose to. The plan is to start small with workshops or training sessions that introduce young people to different areas of IT, like design, cloud computing, cybersecurity, programming and more. Over time, I want to support them with certifications, mentorship and tools, so they’re ready for university, work or life. As the community grows, I hope to bring them into a bigger project I’m developing called PowerGridX, which is about using tech to improve electricity access through smarter systems. I know It build it alone. That’s why AccessLab isn’t just about learning, it’s about building a team, a community of change makers, who grow together and create impact in the real world.

About the Millennium Fellow

Sandra Mensah is an emerging innovator and final year Information Technology student at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Ghana. Passionate about bridging technology and community impact, she founded PowerGridX, a smart energy initiative working to make Africa’s electricity systems more reliable, starting from Ghana, and AccessLab Tech, a project introducing young people, especially girls, to digital skills early in life.
Inspired by her fieldwork with the Electricity Company of Ghana, Sandra combines technical skill, creativity and a deep sense of responsibility to drive solutions for energy access and digital inclusion. She aspires to scale her innovations across Africa, empowering communities to thrive in a sustainable, connected future.
